Bob The Drag Queen On Why Drag Is The "Last Underground Art Form"

"Even clowns have college."

It feels like drag is everywhere these days. RuPaul's Drag Race is more popular than ever, Trixie Mattel is traveling the world performing her chart-topping country albums, even queen Ada Vox slayed the competition and made it to the top ten on American Idol.

Why is drag so popular now?

In the latest episode of the digital series, Hype & Influence, the impact of drag culture is examined, and talked about, by those who know it best—queens like New York legend Linda Simpson, 10-year-old Desmond is Amazing and Drag Race Season 8 winner, Bob the Drag Queen.

"There's nothing quite like being on RuPaul's Drag Race. I cant compare it to anything in the world," Bob says in the video, as he watches the moment he realized he was picked as America's next drag superstar.

"Drag went from being referential to being the reference, which is crazy. People pull from drag culture because drag is the ultimate art form, and it is the last underground art form. Even clowns have college."

Watch the video below to hear the queens explain how Drag Race and drag are changing the world, and how you don't have to be on a competition reality series or dress in designer duds to be a fierce queen.

RuPaul's Drag Race Season 10 airs Thursdays at 8/7c on VH1.
