Today In Gay: Boy George Says 1D Member Is Gay, Hate From Jamaica, More

Cinemax's action-packed series Strike Back returned this month, and brought a new baddie:  Dougray Scott plays rogue operative James Leatherby, whom our cousins at TheBacklot say is "prone to brutal, violent outbursts, and relies on fear and intimidation

to get what he wants." In his debut scene, we see Leatherby (gotta love that name, BTW) having pretty graphic sex with his boyfriend. Luckily, it sounds like James doesn't fall into the mincing evil queen stereotype—more the shoot first, ask for a second date later, type.

Don't count Pennsylvania as one of the states on the verge of marriage equality. Repugnant Republican Governor Tom Corbett is determined to stop country clerks from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples: On Wednesday, state attorneys filed a brief claiming such licenses were invalid, and compared gay couples to “12-year-olds,” who also cannot get married in Pennsylvania. Wow, you learn something new everyday.

liam payne boy georgeBoy George has declared what many have thought: "The odds are one of One Direction must be gay. I think everyone is a bit bisexual deep down, so the odds are they are probably all bisexual. They’re rock stars so it’s what you’d expect, isn’t it? I’d be disappointed if they weren’t," the 1980s icon told the Daily Star, adding, "Tattoos don’t make you butch. Look at me."

queen-ifricaReggae singer Queen Ifrica was disinvited from a music festival earlier this month when activists complained about her homophobic lyrics, like "no faggotism" and "no fish." Just a week before Ifrica was axed from  Toronto's Rastafest International Reggae Concert, she announced “no gays are allowed here,” at an Jamaican Independence Day festival in the same city.

Another Jamaican performer, Sizzla, is standing up Ifrica:  “The women must speak out against [homosexuality] . They should get their kids and go in the streets and protest against it," says Sizzla, one of the most successful contemporary artists in reggae. "Buggerism, we nah strengthen it... We say [burn] fire straight fi dat lifestyle." In the past, Sizzla's own homophobic lyrics have seen him banned from Sweden and Great Britain. Hmm, what rhymes with hugs?

Jason SomervilleJason Somerville, the only openly gay player in professional poker, is closing in on $5 million in winnings: "I never really considered poker to be a career until a few years later, when I really started having success," said 26-year-old Somerville, who started playing online poker when he was just 16. He had long felt coming out was a bigger gamble than any hand he was played:  "I had always battled with [coming out], especially as I became more known in poker," he said. "As I got older, I realized that I would have to take certain steps, if I truly wanted to be happy." After meeting his boyfriend, Vincent, Somerville came out on Valentine's Day 2012.

The Treasury Department today announced same-sex couples will be able to file taxes jointly even if they live in a state than bans same-sex marriage. Kind of a bittersweet victory.
