Well, the Boy Scouts of America voted to lift its ban on gay scouts, and the Earth didn't erupt into molten lava. But maybe that's because the group kept its rule against gay and lesbian parents and leaders. (Just to hedge their bets, y'know)

Some 1,400 members of the Boy Scouts National Council met in Grapevine, Texas today and passed the resolution by a whopping  61.4%. New membership standards, which state that "no youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone," go into effect on January 1, 2014.

Gay scout Pascal Tessier, whose Change.org petition to lift the ban received more than 128,000 signatures, called the resolution "life-changing." Greg Bourke, who was ousted as a Scoutmaster after coming out called today's vote a sign of progress, but regretted that he and other out adults are still shunned by the Scouts: "There is no other word for that except 'discrimination.'"

Guess there's no badge for that, huh?
