Brad Pitt's Mother Against Gay Marriage

Well this is kind of a bummer.

Jane Pitt, the mother of actor Brad Pitt, revealed herself to be against gay marriage in a letter she penned for The Springfield News-Leader this week. Even more shocking, given her famous son and his even more famous girlfriend's support of President Barack Obama, she also revealed herself to be a supporter of presidential hopeful Mitt Romney.

Jane wrote, "Any Christian should spend much time in prayer before refusing to vote for a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality just because he is a Mormon."

Though the paper initially tried to deny that the letter was from the mother of the Hollywood star, a retraction revealed it was indeed Brad's mother who submitted the piece.

While Ms. Pitt has every right to her opinion, the letter comes as a huge shock given how much her son has done for gay rights. Brad and longtime girlfriend Angelina Jolie have often been vocal about waiting to wed until gay men and women are allowed the same right in this country, and in 2007 the actor donated $100,000 to the campaign against Proposition 8.

At that time Brad released a statement saying; "Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn’t harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8."

Sadly, it appears that his mother does not share this view.
