Briefs: Morrissey Is Not A Sam Smith Fan, Whoopi On Damage Control, And Cher Is A Very Wise Woman

Birthday shoutouts go to Matthew Fox (above), who is 49, Jane Lynch is 55, Jackie Earle Haley is 54, and Harry Dean Stanton is 89

Morrissey has harsh words for ... well, when has Morrissey not had harsh words for everything? But on the current state of music: “So, we are now in the era of marketed pop stars, which means that the labels fully control the charts, and consequently the public has lost interest. It’s very rare that a record label does something for the good of music. Thus we are force-fed such as Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, which at least means that things can’t possibly get any worse. It is sad, though. There’s no spontaneity now, and it all seems to be unsalvageable.”

Whoopi Goldberg has taken an enormous amount of flak for her defense of Bill Cosby. Every time she would say (and yes, I watch The View) "He's never been charged and convicted of anything," I wanted to shout "And he never will be, because these incidents happened too long ago." Well, Dan Abrams visited the show today to explain to Whoopi ... exactly that ... and she now appears to have changed her Cosby tune.

Of all the hysterical overreactions to the SCOTUS ruling, the decision by these Salem, MO. commissioners to lower the American flag once a month in "mourning" was one of the most ridiculous. I say "was" because after enormous pressure they've rescinded that order. But they're still ever so pissed.

THE ICON HAS SPOKEN. We'll just leave it at that.

And here's The Weekly ShoutOUT™. Each week we're going to focus on one out athlete/performer and feature a daily pic and career timeline. We'll be showcasing the big names, but also the lesser-known gay celebs who deserve more recognition. This week we give a ShoutOUT™ to ... Casey Spooner

FischerSpooner released their second album Odyssey in 2005, and the first single "Just Let Go" became their biggest hit, making the UK top ten, and hitting the top ten on the U.S. dance chart.

We've counted down the 100 greatest top ten hits by female artists of the 80's and 90's, so let's take the Wayback Machine even further back and count down the 100 greatest top ten hits by female artists ... OF THE 70'S! There are only two rules - Every song must have hit the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100, and they all must be performed by female vocalists, either solo or as part of a group. You'll be hearing the classics from Olivia, Barbra, Linda, Carly, ABBA, Diana and the other icons, of course, but also great AM Gold treasures you probably haven't heard for years.

And now the top 20! At #20 is "Lady Marmalade" by LaBelle. Patti LaBelle, Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash had their biggest hit (and only top ten single) with this classic, spending one week at #1 in the spring of 1975.

In 2001 Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mýa and Pink brought it back to the top with ... this version.
