Britney Spears Announces Return To The VMAs Stage
It's official!
Britney Spears will usher in a new era of Glory with a performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, just two days after her upcoming ninth studio album drops. According to reports, she'll join G-Eazy on stage to perform the album's lead single, "Make Me."
The pop icon announced the news with a cryptic American Horror Story-style video posted to Twitter this afternoon.
"It's not just a state. It's a story …" she wrote.
In the video, a snake representing Britney's iconic 2001 VMA performance slithers around a room decorated with the relics of her storied career, including the red suit from the "Oops!" video and a blinking "Work Bitch" sign.
"The VMAs don't just give you a stage, they give you a story," a voice says. "Some way of taking a fraction of a second and making it live forever. Before you know it, it's history."
Spears is a VMA legend in her own right, having racked up an impressive 28 nominations, five wins, a Video Vanguard Award and several iconic performances over the years.
It'll be her first time taking the VMA stage since 2007, when she slayed (I don't care what you say!) a performance of "Gimme More."
The VMAs air Sunday, August 28 at 9/8c on MTV.
