Bryan Fuller Bringing "Pushing Daisies" Back—Possibly As A Musical

pushing-daisies Pushing Daisies was a beloved mid-2000s series from Bryan Fuller that many felt was canceled before its time. Fuller thinks so, too—he's trying hard to reunite the Pushing Daisies cast for a project, possibly a Daisies musical.

“We’re working on something that is definitely a Pushing Daisies revival, and the idea would be to have as many cast members as we can to participate in it,” says Fuller, 45.

The openly gay super-producer also reveals that “I’ve had conversations very recently with [Daisies executive producer] Barry Sonnenfeld about financing a film, and with Kristin Chenoweth and Warner Brothers about developing a stage musical.”

Fuller has been keeping the Pushing Daisies dream alive since the show stopped airing: In Season Three of Heroes, Swoosie Kurtz appeared in an episode written by Fuller. He is also trying to get Lee Pace, Kristin Chenoweth and Anna Friel to appear on his NBC series, Hannibal: "He’s definitely interested in doing the show and I would love to work with him again," Fuller told Entertainment Weekly last May. "I also very much want to work with Anna Friel again, and Kristin Chenoweth clearly has to play someone in the Boston arts scene. Perhaps an opera singer. So we are hoping to make that all happen.”

He's also hinted he wouldn't be averse to crowdfunding a Pushing Daisies movie, especially after the triumph of Veronica Mars‘s campaign. “I haven’t even been back in Los Angeles for more than five days since wrapping Hannibal, so one of the first orders of business is to find out more from [Veronica Mars creator] Rob Thomas to find out how he did it. And to call Warner Brothers to see if it’s something that they would allow…But I would, Oh my God, I would love to get those actors together again. I have what I think is a very cool story; it’s just a matter of finding out if it’s possible. I think it would be such an interesting sentimental return.”

Though only nine episodes aired, Pushing Daisies was nominated for 17 Emmys and snagged seven, including Chenoweth’s Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
