One of Grey’s Anatomy’s most beloved characters may be returning to the show—if the network is on board.
Though Dr. Callie Torres came out seven years earlier, actress Sara Ramirez’s own coming out as bisexual in 2016 led to more opportunities. Ramirez left the show to film Madam Secretary but has remained open to the possibility of returning to the series that helped make her a star.

Posting on Twitter earlier this week, Ramirez shared that she was always open to returning to Grey’s Anatomy and that the network “has been nothing but gracious and generous” about the idea.
For the drama’s current storyline, the reunion could work—Callie and her ex-wife, Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw), could reignite an old flame in New York, where Arizona relocated to spend more time with their daughter. But Ramirez is also open to her character returning to Seattle.
Showrunner Shonda Rhimes said in an Instagram Q&A earlier this summer that the team has tried to get ahold of Ramirez: “Because she is on another show… we can’t get her. But we love her. Always. This is her home. Come home, Callie.”
Here’s hoping a reunion is actually in the cards for Grey’s greatest and gayest exes.
