Can We Talk About…? Céline Dion Living Her Best Life at Paris Couture Week

She drove all night to get to these looks. Is that all right? You bet it is, sis!

Can We Talk About…? is a weekly series that is tampering in dark-sided stuff! DARK-SIDED!

Céline Dion: One of the last true divas. Mercurial Instagram star. Fashion plate.

Remember when Céline wore this backward John Galliano for Christian Dior tuxedo at the 1999 Academy Awards?

Everyone was all, “She looks silly!” and ridiculed her for daring to wear something other than a forgettable Oscar de la Renata gown. She landed on many a worst-dressed list that year. Meanwhile, 13-year-old gay me—perennial Oscar-watcher and armchair Vogue editor—saw that and said, “This bitch just gave us fashion.”

And, almost as importantly as the look itself: she sold the garment. She’s giving you so much confidence and all the right angles that you can’t tell this French-Canadian treasure nothin’.

“When I wore that look, yes it was at the Oscars, and when I wore that, everyone was wearing dresses, not pants,” Dion told People back in 2017. “I was the only one with pants in a backward suit from Galliano and if I would do this today it would work. It was avant-garde at the time.”

You bet it was, Céline. And has anyone looked better since?

Twenty years later, La Dion is having the last laugh as the undisputed star of Paris Couture Week, and a bona fide style icon now that the world has finally gotten hip to what teenaged gays knew decades ago: That backwards blazer was the birth of a sartorial Venus.

Throw Céline on a half-shell and tell me where’s the lie.

Following a triumph at this year’s Met Gala, where she interpreted the theme of camp any which way she felt, Céline dropped into Paris for Couture Week with her gays and her fashion A-game in tow.

She was giving you Parisienne, trim, model, thin, and rich:

Here she apparently just killed a man and is stepping out on the town to both literally and figuratively dance on his grave:

Here she is looking like a superhero whose power is an earth-shattering high E above middle C:

Whatever accessory she’s holding in her right hand—I want it. Real bad.:

I’m going to need you to take a moment and brace yourself…

This, however, has to be my favorite look, serving you body and a bold print because she can, while showing Gigi Hadid how it’s actually done:

As usual, Mme. Dion, thank you for your service.
