It’s Eh-Leganza Opulence in New Trailer for “Canada’s Drag Race” on Logo

Who will be crowned Queen of the North?

Thailand, the U.K., and now our Neighbors to the North—RuPaul’s Drag Race is taking over the world!

OUTtv, World of Wonder, Crave, and Blue Ant Studios announced last year that Canada’s Drag Race, a Canadian version of the Emmy-winning competition series, was headed our way with Drag Race Season 11 queen Brooke Lynn Hytes as a permanent judge.

It was also announced that fellow Canadian cutie Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman and Canadian fashion icon Stacey McKenzie would be joining Brooke on the judges’ panel. The new series will be making its U.S. linear television debut on Logo, and now a fierce new trailer has been released where we meet the contestants and find out which celeb squirrel friends will be making cameos to critique the queens.

The guest judges are: BIDDELL (Project Runway Canada winner), Amanda Brugel (The Handmaid’s Tale), Deborah Cox, Elisha Cuthbert (The Ranch, 24), Tom Green, Jade Hassouné (Shadowhunters), Traci Melchor, Michelle Visage, Mary Walsh, and Allie X.

The preview also shows other familiar faces who will pop up on the first season, including Michelle DuBarry, the world’s oldest performing drag queen, Drag Race U.K. contestant Crystal, and Canadian pop princess Ralph.

“Canada’s got it going on. We’re a sleeping beauty, and we’re waking up. Everybody is going to be like ’Oh s—, you’re here!’ We’re the quiet storm,” McKenzie told Entertainment Weekly. “I can’t wait for the world to see the next Drag Race. It’s unapologetically Canadian!”

“I think that the essence of the challenges is similar to RuPaul’s Drag Race, but they’re specific to Canada,” said Bowyer-Chapman. “There are instantly recognizable Easter eggs for Canadians, but they’re universally comedic enough that other audiences won’t be left out of the joke. Seeing these queens perform, this isn’t Drag Race-lite, this is Drag Race full-stop!”

If you need a Ru-Fresher, the 12 contestants who will be competing for Queen of the North are: Anastarzia Anaquway (Toronto, ON), BOA (Toronto, ON), Ilona Verley (Vancouver, BC), Jimbo (Victoria, BC), Juice Boxx (Toronto, ON), Kiara (Montréal, QC), Kyne (Kitchener-Waterloo, ON), Lemon (From Toronto, living in New York City), Priyanka (Toronto, ON), Rita Baga (Montréal, QC), Scarlett Bobo (Toronto, ON), and Tynomi Banks (Toronto, ON).

“Queen to queen, I know the pressure of this competition,” Brooke Lynn says in the preview. “But I can promise you it’s going to be worth it. This experience will change your life completely.”

I write about drag queens. Dolly Parton once ruffled my hair and said I was "just the cutest thing ever."
