In 2019, OUTtv, World of Wonder, Crave, and Blue Ant Studios announced that the Canadian version of the Emmy-winning competition series was headed our way with Drag Race Season 11 queen Brooke Lynn Hytes as a permanent judge. It was also announced that fellow Canadian cutie Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman and Canadian fashion icon Stacey McKenzie would be joining Brooke on the judges’ panel.
There’s no word yet on if the trio of judges will return for the upcoming season, which is scheduled to premiere later this year.
“We are thrilled to bring another season of Canada’s Drag Race to fans, alongside Blue Ant and Crave. Audiences can look forward to even more charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent that the inspiring drag artists of the Great White North have to offer,” World of Wonder co-founders Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey said in a statement.
“We were delighted by the incredible talent showcased in Season 1! We’re excited and honored to continue this celebration of creativity, love, inclusion, and awesome Canadian drag culture,” said Laura Michalchyshyn, CCO and co-president of content at Blue Ant Studios. “We couldn’t ask for better partners in Crave and World of Wonder and can’t wait to introduce audiences to more inspiring queens in Season 2.”
Canada’s Drag Race debuted last summer with 12 queens competing to be Queen of the North: Anastarzia Anaquway (Toronto, ON), BOA (Toronto, ON), Ilona Verley (Vancouver, BC), Jimbo (Victoria, BC), Juice Boxx (Toronto, ON), Kiara (Montréal, QC), Kyne (Kitchener-Waterloo, ON), Lemon (From Toronto, living in New York City), Priyanka (Toronto, ON), Rita Baga (Montréal, QC), Scarlett Bobo (Toronto, ON), and Tynomi Banks (Toronto, ON).
Priyanka eventually snatched the crown and was declared the winner of the first season.
Canada’s Drag Race is just the latest iteration of Drag Race to stomp across our screens in 2021. RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 13 premiered last week on VH1, while the second season of RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K. debuts next Thursday, January 14 on WOW Presents Plus for stateside viewers.
Canada’s Drag Race Season 2 will premiere later this year.
