Captain Jack Harkness and Ianto Jones, the star-crossed lovers of the British sci-fi series Torchwood, are reuniting in a new three-part audio program, Torchwood: Outbreak.
The fact that Ianto died in Torchwood: Children Of Earth seven years ago should prove no obstacle for the franchise, which has routinely hopped around space and time.
Then again, the miniseries, which sees Cardiff coming under attack from a deadly virus, is actually set before the events of Children of Earth, so no time-space hopping will be required.
“As soon as John walked through the door, we knew the magic was back,’ admits director Scott Handcock. “We’ve worked so hard to reunite the cast and it’s just far too much fun in the studio.”
Barrowman and Gareth David-Lloyd are re-teaming with Eve Myles (a.k.a. Gwen Cooper) for what producer James Goss acknowledges is “pretty much what everyone has wanted from Day One—Torchwood’s holy trinity reunited in a full-cast box-set.”
The series “sees the Institute at their very best and their very worst,” adds Goss.
Also returning to the fold are Kai Owen as Gwen’s boyfriend, Rhys, and Tom Price as PC Andy Davidson;, with more cast members to be announced.
Torchwood: Outbreak will be released in November, to coincide with the show’s 10th Anniversary.
Barrowman and David-Lloyd spent some of their time in Cardiff resurrecting the chemistry that made “Janto” one of the best-loved gay couples in sci-fi.
They visited the “Ianto Shrine.”
And gave us a taste of what’s to come this November.
Which hopefully will finally help us get over this.
