Carlos Campos: 3 Easy Rules For Wearing A Watch

Coming from someone who's used to traveling all over Manhattan for fashion events, the trek to NYC's new "it" spot Hotel Americano on a getting-chilly-even-with-a-jacket-on kind of night seemed daunting at first, but well worth it once I arrived. The property was not only super chic, but jam-packed with delicious men -- in fact, it was hard to tell who was one of Carlos' models and who was just a guest of the party.

Everyone inside, however, was there to celebrate menswear designer Carlos Campos' first foray into watches for luxury Italian brand Brera Orologi (www.breraorologi.com). Definitely a huge collaboration for the South American born Campos, who told me about the experience, "It's a different approach to designing because accessories are more delicate -- it has to be right to the point -- because when you buy an accessory you want to wear it all the time."

Carlos was able to translate some of the colors used in his current collection into his wrist wear designs, including a cream face backed by a red band, the always elegant black-on-black, and indigo-on-indigo for something that pops. The result: Brera beauties that are bold-faced and luxurious without being flashy. The type of watch you could imagine Brad Pitt wearing, which coincidentally Carlos told me was the kind of guy he imagined actually wearing the watch.

And whether or not you can actually afford the type of statement piece Brad Pitt can, Carlos did give me some pointers for wearing any kind of watch: "Roll up your sleeves. Moisturize your hands. And make sure that your nails are not dirty [laughs]."
