Carole Baskin Comes Out as Bisexual

"Even though I’ve never had a wife, I could just as easily have a wife as a husband."

Today in “this was not on my 2020 bingo card,” Carole Baskin of Tiger King fame has come out as bisexual.

In a new interview with PinkNews, the Netflix star and animal-rights advocate opened about her sexual orientation for the first time. Although she’s only ever been married to men, Baskin told the pub she has “always considered [herself] to be bisexual.”

“Even though I’ve never had a wife, I could just as easily have a wife as a husband,” Baskin said. “As far as the way I feel about us, I think we are all one and I just don’t see us as being different genders or different colors or anything.”

The 59-year-old big-cat lover explained how growing up, she was a tomboy and very “male-oriented” in the hobbies she enjoyed. “I never had any mothering instincts or anything, you know, I never played with dolls,” she said. “And so I always thought that there was something off there, that I couldn’t quite put my finger on.”

In the ’80s, however, she finally realized she “had just as equal feelings for women as I did for men.”

Look, maybe we should have known. She did say “hey” to all you cool cats and kittens!

Baskin, of course, catapulted to fame earlier this year with the premiere of Netflix’s Tiger King docuseries. The hit show chronicled the fall-from-grace of Joe Exotic, another notable figure in the drama-filled world of big cats who is also a member of the LGBTQ community.

Baskin and Exotic are sworn nemeses. Although Exotic is now behind bars for plotting to have Baskin killed, among other charges, the Big Cat Rescue owner has endured her fair share of public controversies, especially after the mysterious disappearance of her second husband.

Asked by PinkNews if she thinks Exotic is an embarrassment to the LGBTQ community, Baskin didn’t mince her words: “I think he’s an embarrassment to the human community. It’s not a matter of what your sexuality is, this man is just a deviant in the way that he treats human life and animal life.”

Baskin competed on the most recent season of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, which coincidentally was also not on my 2020 bingo card. She was eliminated after receiving low scores for her Lion King-themed dance number.
