Carson Kressley on Kevin Hart: “Don’t Mess With the Gays”

The "Drag Race" judge weighs in on Hart's resurfaced homophobic tweets.

Last week the world read Kevin Hart's resurfaced anti-gay tweets, and now RuPaul Drag Race judge Carson Kressley is reading him.

Two days after being announced as the host for the 91st Academy Awards, Kevin Hart decided to step down after some of his old tweets resurfaced, including one where he says he would break a dollhouse over his son's head if he caught him playing with a doll.

NewNowNext caught up with Kressley before he fulfilled his hosting duties at Cyndi Lauper's Home for the Holidays concert benefitting her True Colors Fund. The nonprofit is dedicated to ending homelessness among LGBTQ youth often the result of rejection by their families due to their gender identity or sexual orientation.

"Don't mess with the gays," said the OG Queer Eye star. "It's unfortunate with that happens. It's not great for anybody, but I'm sure they'll find someone magnificent and wonderful and will do a killer job."

As for a replacement host, Kressley says he'd vote for late night host Jimmy Kimmel.

"I'm a Jimmy Kimmel fan," he said. "I think he does a beautiful job."

"Kevin Hart shouldn't have stepped down; he should have stepped up," GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement last week. "Hart's apology to LGBTQ people is an important step forward, but he missed a real opportunity to use his platform and the Oscars stage to build unity and awareness."

The Academy has yet to issue a statement about Hart. The ceremony will be held on February 24, 2019.
