Sam Claflin Is Still Shirtless, In Fishnet, As Finnick Odair In "Hunger Games: Catching Fire": PHOTOS

Hunger Games Catching Fire blazes into theaters tomorrow, and fans of Suzanne Collins' sci-fi series are eager to see how the second installment will be transformed for the screen. One aspect we're particularly curious about is the tribute-parade outfit worn by District 4  combatant Finnick Odair, played by easy-on-the-eyes Sam Claflin.

In the book, Finnick's stylist puts him in little more than a gold fishing net that drapes over his head and is tied around his crotch like a loincloth. So he's basically naked without being naked naked.

"We have a net," director Francis Lawrence told MTV. "He's got a net that's around his waist. He's got no shirt on. He may not be quite as nude as he is in the book, but there are sugar cubes. We play that scene pretty much as it is in the book, right there by the horses in the staging area for the chariots. That's one of my favorite scenes."

Catching Fire costume designer Trish Summerville, who takes over sartorial duties from Judianna Makovsky, goes into more detail:

MTV: And Finnick's tribute parade outfit is going to be a little different as well? Not just a strategically placed knot of fishing net?

Summerville: You know, we're PG-13. [laughs] We went to Suzanne to see if this is something we have a little liberty to change. Because in your mind, you can imagine that as grand as you can, but to try to take that on to film, it doesn't work sometimes.

What we ended up deciding on was keeping true to the net. It's a fishing net. It's made of gold fabric. It's knitted-together net, and I made him kind of a kilt. It's more like a gladiator-type skirt, so he has that on, and it's belted...

[Sam] was really relieved he has a longer skirt, and he kind of has tights underneath and kind of substantial boots. He's bare-chested, and he worked really hard to get into amazing shape ... I think it's much more interesting than just the net. It would have been a little too Chippendales.

And that's a problem because?

All joking aside, Finnick is a complicated character: He's the champion of the 64th Hunger Games but after his victory, he's forced into prostitution by President Snow. (At the tribute he tells Katniss that his clients pay him in secrets, not money.)

Lawrence says he had something of a checklist in mind for the character:  "There were a few things we were looking for. One is the physical description of Finnick that you know that he's going to be beautiful, and he's going to be athletic, and he's going to be built, and he's going to be charming," the director said. "I think Sam had all of that. He's very athletic, a very handsome guy, really charming."
