Before there was Lolita there was The Price of Salt, a Patricia Highsmith lesbian novel about an older divorcee who falls in love with a young New York salesgirl, and their epic road trip out West. Well the novel, published in 1952, is now going to be a feature film, Carol, starring Cate Blanchett and Mia Wasikowska.

It gets better, friends, as Todd Haynes will be directing the pic. The man behind Velvet Goldmine, Far From Heaven and Mildred Pierce stepped in when original helmer John Crowley dropped out.

No word on when filming will begin, but we're hoping sooner rather than later.
