In the mood for a moody lesbian melodrama? You're in luck: The trailer for the much anticipated Carol, starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara as star-crossed lovers, dropped this week.

Carol tells the tale of a department store worker (Mara) falling head over incredibly-fashionable heels for a married high-society lady (Blanchett).

It's directed by Todd Haynes, best known for his work on Velvet Goldmine, and Far From Heaven, and clearly embodies his signature mannered and dreamy style.

Co-starring Sarah Paulson and Kyle Chandler, the film was overwhelmingly praised at Cannes, where it received a standing ovation and Mara tied for the Best Actress award. Critics, meanwhile, praised both Blanchett and Mara for their stunning performances, and acknowledged the outstanding score and costume design.
