A group of Catholic school students in northern Canada wore rainbow socks at their graduation to show support for their LGBT classmates.

At the Vanier Catholic Secondary School commencement ceremony on Saturday, nearly half of the students donned Pippi Longstocking-grade hosiery to celebrate the school's new gay-straight alliance.

Liam Finnegan, who is gay, said his friend and classmate Kate Power organized the sock hop. “She wanted to make a statement saying, ‘We’re not a homophobic school’—because a lot of people have that perception, so it was a really cool experience to see that,” he told CBC.

Those are some pretty awesome kids.
