Beyoncé, Chris Evans, Katy Perry, Outraged Over Trump Withdrawing Protections For Transgender Students

"These bathroom laws are about whether trans people have the right to exist in public space."

The Trump administration officially rescinded protections for transgender students yesterday that Barack Obama had put in place last year, and celebrities and businesses across the country are now speaking out against the dangerous decision.

Apple was one of the first companies to publicly condemn the action, saying, “We support efforts toward greater acceptance, not less, and we strongly believe that transgender students should be treated as equals."

Gavin Grimm, the Virginia trans student suing his high school to use the restroom consistent with his gender identity, spoke about the decision as a guest on The View Thursday morning, and Laverne Cox called in to give her opinion as well.

"These bathroom laws are about whether trans people have the right to exist in public space," Cox said. "It is not a states' rights issue, it is a civil rights issue."

Politicians also were quick to disagree with Trump's decision, including New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Dozens of other celebrities took to social media to express their support for transgender youth.
