Channing Tatum Honoring "Independence Day" Director Roland Emmerich At GLAAD Media Awards. Lap Dance Optional

Channing Tatum will present out director Roland Emmerich with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award at the 26th GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on March 21.

Emmerich directed Tatum in White House Down, and also helmed 2012Day After Tomorrow, StargateIndependence Day and The Patriot. He is currently working on Stonewall, a drama during the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City. The film stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers,  War Horse's Jeremy IrvineCaleb Landry Jones and newcomer Jonny Beauchamp. Emmerich is producing the film with Michael Fossat and Marc Frydman, from a script by playwright Jon Robin Baitz (Other Desert Cities).

“It’s one of these civil rights moments, like Rosa Parks,” Emmerich ha said of the riots. “And very little is known about it. Even gay people don’t know much about it.”

The GLAAD Media Awards recognize personalities, shows and organizations in the media for fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community and the issues that affect their lives. In addition to this film work, Emmerich has also worked with Outfest's Legacy Project, The Los Angeles LGBT Center; the Freedom to Marry campaign and the Cambodian Children's Fund.

Previous Stephen F. Kolzak honorees include Laverne Cox, Wanda Sykes, Rufus Wainwright, Melissa Etheridge, Bill Condon, Todd Haynes, Alan Ball, Ellen DeGeneres and Sir Ian McKellen.
