Gay Man Claims He's Been Barred From Charlotte Pride Because He Supports Trump

Brian Talbert said his plans for an American-themed float were rejected by organizers.

An openly gay man says he's been kicked out of Charlotte Pride because he voted for President Trump.

Brian Talbert had elaborate plans for this year's Pride march, centered around a 27-foot-long float covered with a "bunch of American flags," a replica of the Statue of Liberty, several "female impersonators" and the "most patriotic music anyone has ever heard," according to the Washington Post.

"You were going to look at this float and be filled with pride for being an American," he explained.

However, his plans were dashed when Charlotte Pride told the fervent Trump supporter that he wouldn't be allowed to have a float in the parade.

Talbert, a member of the politically conservative LGBT group Deplorable Pride, claims he was barred from this year's celebration because of his politics, adding that organizers accused him of being "anti-gay."

"I’m very proud of my vote," he told local reporters. "I don't regret my vote. I will vote for Donald Trump again. I'm proud of my president. I don't think I should be vilified because I’m proud of a U.S. president as an American."

The gay Republican now plans to file a lawsuit against Charlotte Pride for discrimination. He started a GoFundMe page earlier this week to raise money for legal fees and has already amassed $5,000 of his $100,000 goal.

A spokesperson for Charlotte Pride released a statement saying the organization has the right to "decline participation... to groups or organizations which do not reflect the mission, vision and values of our organization."

"In the past, we have made similar decision to decline participation from other organizations espousing anti-LGBTQ religious or public policy stances," it continued. "Charlotte Pride envisions a world in which LGBTQ people are affirmed, respected and included in the full social and civic life of their local communities, free from fear of any discrimination, rejection, and prejudice."

Charlotte Pride, one of the largest Pride celebrations in the South, will be held from August 24-27, with upwards of 100,000 people expected to attend.
