Chelsea Manning Is Banned From Entering Canada—And Donald Trump Jr. Is Loving It

"So, i guess Canada has permanently banned me ?"

Chelsea Manning has been banned from Canada, a result of her being convicted of treason.

The former soldier was court-martialed in 2013 on charges of violating the Espionage Act after disclosing to WikiLeaks nearly 750,000 classified or sensitive military documents.

While her sentence was commuted, a letter from the Canadian government explained the conviction keeps her from entering the country. On Twitter, Manning shared that she is “challenging [her] denial of entry at a Canadian ’admissibility hearing’ in the future.”

But Donald Trump Jr. was among those who took joy in her predicament. He liked a transphobic tweet aimed at Manning that featured emojis of two peanuts, a pair of scissors, and a clown in makeup.

After Newsweek reported about the meme, it has been unliked by the president’s son.

The letter Manning posted indicates she attempted to enter Canada at the St-Bernard-de-Lacolle, Quebec, last Friday. The CBC reports the border there is near Roxham Road, a popular crossing point for asylum seekers.
