Cher Admits She Doesn't Like Her Own Music: "I'm Not A Cher Fan"

The Billboard Icon Award recipient also thinks "'icon' is a stupid word."

Do you believe this?

In a revealing new Billboard cover story, the legendary Cher says she doesn't really care for her own music—despite being the first artist in history to score a No. 1 single on a Billboard chart in each decade since the 1960s.

“I’m not a Cher fan,” she says. “I just don’t think my aesthetic taste lies in her direction.”

Okay, she does like “If I Could Turn Back Time” and some of her other late-’80s power ballads, but Billboard says she "felt ashamed" of her ’70s classics and found her 1998 hit "Believe" to be "a nightmare" to record.

As for being presented with the Billboard Icon Award at this year's Billboard Music Awards, which airs tonight on ABC, she says, “‘Icon’ is a stupid word.”

Like fellow diva Patti LuPone, Cher also has a few strong words in the interview for Donald Trump. “The president is cheating and getting away with it, and using the White House to make money, and he’s going to take health care away from people, and people are going die,” she says. “It’s outrageous. You feel like you’re screaming ‘Fire!’ and no one’s listening.”

Cher currently has a Las Vegas residency and is working on a Broadway musical about her life and career. She celebrated her 71st birthday yesterday.

“I don’t like getting old," she says. "I’m shocked that I can still run across the stage at my age. I thought I’d be dead."
