Legendary Designer Bob Mackie Is Designing The Costumes For Cher's New Broadway Musical
As if the news there's going to be a Cher jukebox musical wasn't gagworthy enough, producers have announced that longtime Cher collaborator Bob Mackie will be designing costumes for it. Mackie will also appear as a character in early scenes of The Cher Show., which explores her career and personal life and features three different actresses portraying the diva in different points in her evolution.
The out designer first teamed up with Cher back in 1967 for her appearance on The Carol Burnett Show (above) and is responsible for her most iconic looks from music videos, TV appearances and red-carpet moments.
As if having Mackie wasn't enough of a coup, the production will also feature sets by Tony winner Christine Jones and Brett Banakis, who have previously collaborated on American Idiot and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Tony Winner Rick Elice (Jersey Boys, Peter and the Starcatchers) is penning the book, with choreography by Christopher Gattelli (Newsies) and musical supervisor Daryl Waters (The Color Purple, Memphis).
The Cher Show will debut in June at Chicago's Oriental Theatre before moving to Broadway’s Neil Simon Theatre in the fall. Below, view Mackie's costume sketches for the production.
