Cher on the First Gay Men She Ever Met: "These Guys Are Great!"

She was 12 and didn't know they were gay, but appreciated their differences.

Gay men have always loved Cher. And, as it turns out, Cher has always loved gay men.

She and Andy Garcia sat down in London with GLAAD's Anthony Ramos to discuss their new film, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again. During the interview, Ramos asked why she thought so many in the LGBTQ community have love for both Mama Mia and the music of ABBA. She answered by relaying her first experience meeting gay men.

"The first gay men I met, I was 12-years-old, and I came home from school, and there were these two guys in our living room. They were talking to my mom and her best friend. They were so happy and excited about everything they were talking about. So animated. And I thought, These guys are much more fun than the regular men that come over to visit," she said.

"And I didn't know that they were gay, but I just thought, These guys are great! And it just started from then," she added.

"It was another check on my bucket list to work with Cher, as an actor," Garcia told Ramos when asked what the experience of shooting this movie meant to him. It has been well received by critics and moviegoers alike, with strong opening week ticket sales.

And if that wasn't enough for Cher fans to be excited about, she recently announced she will be releasing an album of ABBA covers.
