Chris Kluwe Cut From Raiders, Obama Salutes Spouses Of Gay Veterans: Today In Gay

360_gay_military_0706Attorney General Eric Holder announced today that the Supreme Court's striking down of the Defense of Marriage Act means same-sex partners of gay veterans are eligible for the same benefits as heterosexual spouses.

Holder sent a letter to congressional leaders explaining that the Justice Department will no longer enforce Title 38 of the U.S. code, a provision relegating such benefits only to legally married couples. The statute, he explained has “a tangible adverse effect on the families of veterans and, in some circumstances, active-duty service members and reservists."

Just last week, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki stated that same-sex partners weren’t eligible for benefits because no court had found Title 38’s definition unconstitutional.

Hopefully Kluwe will get picked up by another team soon. If not, may we suggest a job as a LGBT activist/male model? (What, that's not a thing?)

alain_delon_bynTurns out legendary French actor Alain Delon is full of merde: Speaking of French television, France's answer to James Dean spoke out against the recent passage of marriage equality in the European nation. Delon, the once-sexy star of films like Purple Noon and Rocco and His Brothers, explained that gay couples having children "is against nature" and that men "are here to love a woman, to woo a woman, not to flirt with or get picked up by guys.”

But Delon doesn't hate les pedes: He clarified “I’m not against gay marriage, I do not give a damn. But I am against the adoption of children.”

Writer Claude Serraute commented on Delon's statement, saying “It is against nature to love yourself as much as he does.”

A New York man visiting Cleveland was attacked on his way to a gay bar, in what police are calling a hate crime:  Jared Fox told WKYC-TV that nearly 20 men were tailing him on his way to Cocktails, a gay club on Detroit Avenue. “I crossed the street. They crossed the street. And then I knew that this just wasn’t going to be good,” he said. After asking Fox if he had money, the men charged at him. “They were calling me a faggot, a queer. One of them said, ‘Do you want to die?"

A bartender at Cocktails had called police several times that evening about the group harassing various patrons on their way to and from the bar.  Fox suffered bruised ribs, facial lacerations and a ruptured eardrum.

HIV AIDSA new HIV vaccine has passed initial clinical trials with no adverse side effects on human subjects: Researchers investigated SAV001-H for safety, tolerability, and immune-system responses and found that, not only did it not have serious side effects but it produced a surprising boost in antibody production. That's a positive sign for Phase 2 trials, which will focus on immune response.

The vaccine, developed by Western University of Ontario's Dr. Chil-Yong Kang, is the first to use a killed-whole HIV-1, similar to the vaccines developed for polio, influenza and rabies. It's genetically engineered, which means it could be produced easily in large amounts. Funding for the vaccine is being provided by the Canadian government and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
