Christian Group To Protest Dallas Cowboys For Signing Michael Sam: Today In Gay

Not everyone is thrilled Michael Sam is now on the Dallas Cowboys' practice team: A group calling itself the American Decency Asociation says thousands of Christians will demonstrate at AT&T Stadium on Sunday to protest the team signing the NFL's first openly gay player.

"We cannot just stand idly by as Christian values and morals are trampled. We will do whatever we can to preserve family values in this country,” stated ADA leader Jack Burkman, who claims his group has some 3.62 million members across 41 states.

Of course some see Sam's sexuality—and interest in it—as a bonus for America's Team: “Anything the Cowboys can do by adding personality and entertainment into their gumbo of a brand... translates into increased relevance, increased sales, and increased brand equity,” says Erin Patton, a business-school professor and former Nike executive.

Patton insists, however, “putting a strong product on the football field” is paramount.

phil_robertson_duck_dynasty_5Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson isn't just an anti-gay reality star—he's a published author!

His new tome, UnPHILtered: The Way I See It, includes an interview with ABC News' Ryan Owens in which Robertson claims he's no more a hater than the Son of God.

"I'm as much of a homophobe as Jesus was," declares the 67-year-old CEO of Duck Commander." The people who are participating in homosexual behavior, they need to know that I love them."

Funny, Phil, do you always equate people you love with bestiality?

An Oregon grandmother says she's being targeted by her new landlord because she's a lesbian.

Melanie Powell tells KOIN6 that she’s been living out and proud in her Rainier mobile home for 25 years but only felt discriminated against when the park's management hired anti-gay property manager Maureena Schmaing.

Powell says Schmaing has issued her bizarre citations, including one for “using a flashlight,” and another for being outside after 10pm. She's also been ordered to repair her porch and roof and repaint her entire home, even though no one else in the park has told to do so.

Recently, vandals spraypainted "Die Dyke" on the side of Powell's home.

“I’m tired of being yelled at, screamed at [with] vulgar language, being accused of doing stuff we are not doing,” Powell says. “I got my gay pride flag hanging out front [but] I’ve kept my business inside my house. I don’t put it in people’s faces.”

Schmaing says she's just following the rules but neighbors are taking Powell's side. One man tells reporters he's had to intervene several times when Schmaing has been verbally abusive. “I don’t know what I would do without having all these people on my side,” says Powell.

"I’m a senior GOP spokesman, and I’m gay. Let me get married," starts Richardson, who begs for our sympathy because this revelation will likely get him dropped from some Christmas card list:

For my admission here, I will alienate friends whose faiths regard my sexuality as culturally corrosive. I’ll suffer the snickering of those across the aisle whose politics regard my own as personally injurious. And conservative clients may regard me as a liability.

After all, the tide is not as unidirectional as people say.

Robertson insists he's always been pro-marriage equality, even while closeted. But he admits "I’m also a professional political operative who’s helped install in government those who perpetuate marriage bias in America."

How'd that work out for you, James?
