Transgender Woman Stabbed to Death in Chicago

Ciara Minaj Carter Frazier, 31, is at least the 22nd trans person killed in the United States this year.

A transgender woman was stabbed to death in Chicago Wednesday night.

The body of Ciara Minaj Carter Frazier, 31, was discovered in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. Police believe she was killed by someone she was arguing with, the Chicago Sun-Times reports, while in an abandoned building. The investigation is ongoing.

She is at least the 22nd transgender person killed in the United States this year, and the second black trans woman from Chicago to be killed.

Just over a month ago, 24 year-old Dejanay Stanton was discovered with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital. So far, no arrests have been made and no suspects named in either case.

"It feels like we are being targeted," said LaSaia Wade, executive director of the Chicago trans advocacy group Brave Space Alliance, who knew Frazier through the ball scene.

"I’m frustrated and upset with the lack of cases turning around. There is a lack of [concern]...for our safety from police."
