Claire Foy Has a Plan for Achieving Gay Icon Status

Including a fabulously evil Disney character

Claire Foy captured our queer hearts—and earned an Emmy and Golden Globe—for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix's The Crown. Last weekend, the star flipped into theaters as bisexual computer hacking vigilante, Lisbeth Salander in The Girl in the Spider's Web. Between those two roles and the fact that she's not afraid to speak her mind when it comes to issues of equality, Foy is quickly working her way to becoming a gay icon—and she's thrilled about the news.

"I'm very excited about it," Foy tells NewNowNext. "I've been told I need to play a Disney character next with general evil [superpowers], a killer wardrobe, and some really good catchphrases. That's my plan."

Foy also listed a few of her favorite gay icons whose footsteps she'd try to follow in.

"Can I use Barbra Streisand as one? She is the queen. I love her. Kylie [Minogue]. I'm a big fan of Kylie."

The Girl in the Spider's Web is now playing.
