Clay Aiken Considering A Run For Congress. Will America Call In To Vote?

Clay Aiken didn't win American Idol, but the out singer is "actively considering" a run for Congress, reports the Washington Blade.

Sources tells the paper that Aiken, 35, has met with pollsters, talked to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in his native North Carolina and is surveying how much support he might garner if he threw his hat in the ring.

As part of a bid for North Carolina’s 2nd district, currently occupied by Republican Rep. Renee Ellmers, Aiken has also allegedly been working with political strategist Betsy Conti, who worked for former North Carolina Gov. Bev Purdue and 2000 presidential nominee Al Gore.If Aiken is serious about running, he'd have to file by the February 28 deadline. North Carolina is considered a red state, but the 2nd district includes the liberal oasis of Raleigh, where Aiken was born and raised. How his sexuality would play in a state that recently voted to constitutionally ban on same-sex marriage is unclear.
