Clay Aiken's Campaign Bus Breaks Down After He Votes For Himself

Aiken, who is running for the House of Representatives from North Carolina's 2nd District, had just finished voting for himself when he boarded his campaign bus and learned it had broken down.

"The bus couldn’t keep up with the pace of our campaign, so we had to leave it behind," campaign spokesman Tucker Middleton joked to Buzzfeed.

The former American Idol contestant continued his campaign stops in a backup vehicle—He'll need all the help he can get to unseat anti-gay incumbent Renee Ellmers in the largely Republican district.

Aiken, who came out in 2011, put his cards on the table earlier this year, telling the Washington Post, "There is no going back to singing as a profession really."

The race has been plagued by strange occurrences: Earlier this year Aiken's opponent in the NC Democratic primary, Keith Crisco, died suddenly in an accident.
