This seems perfect for anyone who wants the reliability of a pair of jeans, but who has knees that just need to be shown off. But based on the negative comments on Twitter, that type of person may not exist.

The scornful tweets and comments about the unique pants were swift and steady, mercilessly mocking the brand's brave new experiment. So how did Topshop reply? By going a step further and creating jeans made entirely of translucent plastic. So, not jeans at all. But definitely now a thing.

Topshop suggests wearing the pants "as a statement piece for a festival or costume party," so that seems appropriate. But unless you were looking for a pair of pants to wear under your raincoat during a monsoon, there's a chance these jeans may not serve you well in everyday life.
