It's a tale as old as time: gay guy finds himself flirting with a fun, good-looking fella but isn't 100 percent sure he's gay.

Does he monitor the conversation for Golden Girls references? Does he perhaps hop on Grindr to see if his new beau has a profile? Or does he do the unthinkable and outright ask him on a date?

A new video from College Humor satirizes the classically confounding situation, poking fun at the stealth tactics some will employ to sniff out another's sexuality.

The video opens on two guys chatting at a cocktail party. After one leaves to grab drinks, the one left behind immediately dials into his partner, who is scanning the interaction spy-style in a remote van.

"Are you getting this?" he asks. "This guy's hot as f*ck, I've gotta figure out if he's gay."

Over the course of his call-in, he asks his hacker buddy to check for his potential date's profiles on gay dating apps and to see if any of his Facebook posts are gay.

"Are his...posts gay?" the intel operator questions. "Yeah, you know, like Disney stuff," he explains, "or TBT of marching band. Maybe he made his profile picture to be that rainbow flag thing!"

"Couldn't that just mean he's an ally?" the hacker questions. "Ugh, f*cking confusing allies," he responds.

After a lot of trial and error, the duo finally land on an Instagram photo showing the ambiguous cutie sporting a pair of Andrew Christian briefs.

"Gay dudes love Andrew Christian!" the suitor announces triumphantly.

"You're [basing this off] his underwear waistband on Instagram? That seems a little thin," his friend says.

Regardless, the discovery gives him the confidence he needs to ask out his new crush while a surprise twist highlights just how ridiculous his intense intel work turned out to be.
