Country Singer Kacey Musgraves Wins CMA Song Of The Year For Equality Anthem "Follow Your Arrow"

Tonight at the 2014 Country Music Association Awards, rising star Kacey Musgraves received Song of the Year for her anthem of acceptance and equality, "Follow Your Arrow."

“Do you guys realize what this means for country music?,” Musgraves asked the crowd as she took the stage to receive the award. “This award means so much because our genre was built on simple, good songs about real life, and that’s what this was."

While the song wouldn't be considered edgy in the pop world, in the conservative land of country music, lyrics condoning gay relationships—"kiss lots of boys/or kiss lots of girls/if that's what you're into"—are kind of out there..

Musgraves was joined on stage by the song's co-writers Shane McAnally and openly gay singer-songwriter Brandy Clark.

She actually performed the song at last year's CMAs. You can watch that performance below.
