Cristiano Ronaldo Called "F*ggot" By Opponent During Soccer Match
Cristiano Ronaldo got into a scuffle during a soccer game in Madrid this weekend, when an opponent reportedly called him a "faggot."
Real Madrid's superstar forward got into it with Jorge Resurrección Merodio of Atletico Madrid during the match's 63rd minute.
According to a local radio station, Merodio—known as "Koke"—called Ronaldo a faggot during a tense encounter.
To which the 31-year-old replied, “Yes, a faggot. But a very rich one, shithead.”
Ronaldo has developed something of a thick skin about homophobic slurs, which he's endured throughout his career.
In an April match between Real Madrid and Barcelona, opposing fans chanted "maricon" ("faggot") at him from the stands.
"Ronaldo has been the continued object of insults and malicious rumors from the tabloids, and also from sports journalists and players, in order to humiliate, offend and denigrate a great football player," said Francisco Ramirez of the Spanish LGBT Observatory.
As for Saturday's game, both Koke and Ronaldo received yellow cards, but Ronaldo went on to score two more goals to help bring Real Madrid victory.
