Trump Visits Lesbian Police Officer Injured Taking Down Shooter At Congressional Baseball Practice

Special Agent Crystal Griner took down the assailant after being shot in the ankle.

President Trump and First Lady Melania visited the officers injured during the shooting at a Congressional baseball practice this week and thanked them for their heroism.

In the aftermath of Wednesday morning's shooting, which saw James T. Hodgkinson open fire on a group of Republican congressmen practicing for a charity baseball game, Special Agents Crystal Griner and David Bailey have been widely credited for preventing the attack from turning into a full-on massacre.

The officers were present at the practice in service to participant House Majority Whip Steven Scalise, who receives a full service detail as a senior House member. By some counts, as many as 22 members of Congress were on the field at the time of the shooting.

"Everybody probably would have died except for the fact that the Capitol Hill police were there, and the only reason they were there was because we had a member of [House] leadership on our team," Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul told MSNBC.

Griner was shot in the ankle as she and Bailey took down Hodgkinson. Both officers received treatment at a D.C. area hospital, where they were visited by the President and First Lady.

Upon their visit, the Trumps offered a bouquet of white flowers to each officer's wife and thanked them for their courage.

Griner and Bailey have been working together for years, most recently on the security detail of former Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

"[Griner’s] an incredibly able and professional individual who always takes her job and responsibility seriously," Cantor told The Daily Beast. "It is not surprising to hear of her heroism and bravery during this horrible attack."

A classmate of Griner's from Hood College echoed this sentiment on Facebook, writing: "She was a woman to be reckoned with at Hood, an amazing athlete and a lively presence. It does not surprise me at all that she would think so quickly and act so courageously."

Bailey has since been released from the hospital, but Griner is reportedly still receiving treatment.
