CW’s “Riverdale” Casts Role Of Gay Student Kevin Keller To Round Out Classic “Archie” Cast

The young actor is joining Luke Perry, who was recently cast as Archie's dad.

Newcomer Casey Cott just scored one of the final spots in the cast for the upcoming CW pilot, Riverdale.

Cott will be playing Kevin Keller, the first openly gay character from the popular Archie comics that the pilot is based on.

“Yesterday was a day of firsts for me,” wrote Cott on Twitter. “First table read, first hair coloring, first chest wax. #Riverdale”

Produced by Greg Berlanti, Riverdale is reportedly taking a look at the darker side of what’s really going on beneath the wholesome facade of the characters in the fictional high school.

KJ Apa was previously cast as Archie, and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody’s Cole Sprouse was cast as Jughead.

And in an exciting bit of news for fans of ’90s drama Beverly Hills, 90210, it was recently announced that Luke Perry will star as Archie’s dad, Fred Andrews.
