Cyndi Lauper is one of many who’ve proclaimed “Matt Shepard is a friend of mine” in support of a new award-winning documentary about the late Matthew Shepard’s life, his death, and his parent’s tireless efforts in fighting for LGBT equality in the years following.

Directed by filmmaker and childhood friend of Matthew, Michele Josue, Matt Shepard Is A Friend Of Mine revisits the shocking Laramie, Wyoming hate crime with never-before-seen photos, rare video footage of Matthew, and new revelations about his all-too-brief life from family and friends.

"Our film and the people in it all bear witness to the simple fact that Matt Shepard was a good person—an amazing person with a bright future who tragically fell victim to the ignorance and hatred that persists in our society today,” said Josue.

"There’s a generation of LGBT people and allies who are not familiar with Matthew’s life or how the world reacted when he was murdered," said Taj Paxton, Executive Producer of Logo Documentary Films. "Through discussing Matthew’s life and legacy, Michele Josue not only shows a powerfully human side to Matthew, but reminds us all of the work that needs to be done to fight today’s epidemic of anti-LGBT hate violence."

Matt Shepard Is A Friend Of Mine premieres Monday, July 27 at 9pm on Logo.
