Dance Legend Mia Michaels Talks "Finding Neverland," Switching From TV To Stage And Working With Logo TV "Chorus Boy" Julius Anthony Rubio
Logo TV's new "Chorus Boys" series kicked off last week with an introduction to Julius Anthony Rubio, the dedicated Broadway babe currently working as a swing and Assistant Dance Captain in Broadway's Finding Neverland.
In his video profile, Rubio walked us through a day in his busy life, opened up about the struggles he's faced, and revealed how they've paved his long road to Broadway. "I knew performing and being in the arts was for me when I realized it was the one thing that saved me," he said.
On top of working his stage job by night, Rubio also gushed over his most recent gig working with gay rapper Cazwell; the two can be seen rehearsing moves for one of Cazwell's upcoming videos in the studio. "I think it's super exciting because he's never wanted to really dance before," said Rubio.

Rubio also spoke about working with Finding Neverland's choreographer, the legendary and Emmy award-winning Mia Michaels of So You Think You Can Dance fame.
"She's someone that I've looked up to since I was a kid," he said. "Working with her was a dream in itself. She doesn't just teach you choreography, she teaches you a language."
In a separate interview, Mia Michaels spoke just as highly of Rubio.
"I got on his ass because I saw greatness in this guy," she said of him as he, sitting beside her, shed a tear. "I've never seen anybody work so hard for something as [Julius]. It's so gorgeous because, who he was when he first came in and who he is now — as an artist in the show and as a person in my life — is just a gift. A gift to the stage, a gift to me, and a gift to people who get to witness his talent."
Michaels also said she gladly transitioned to the stage after 10 years of working on television. "I got involved with Neverland when [director] Diane Paulus reached out to me. I was 10 years in television and I was ready to do stage, so I kept putting it out there in the universe. Cut to two years later and I'm living in New York and I have a Broadway show running."
On her choreography for Finding Neverland, Michaels added, "My work definitely is different in Neverland. It's not as edgy, it's quirkier. It's a little bit of a quirk fest and it's emotional too."
