Here’s some news that’s guaranteed to make your Firebolt ascend – everyone’s favorite boy-turned-man wizard will be appearing on March’s issue of Out Magazine. The article, which is now available online, traces Radcliffe’s ascent from young sorcerer to onscreen favorite – did you know he’ll be sharing a tin bathtub with Jon Hamm in the upcoming British miniseries A Young Doctor’s Notebook? That’ll be worth seeing.
When asked about stepping out from the long shadow of Harry Potter, Radcliffe said, “It’s about proving to people that I’m in this for the long haul, and that I wasn’t just looking to get as famous as I could for as long as I could and ride that out. I love almost every aspect of this industry and I want to be in it, and if I could drop dead on a film set at 80, that’s how I’d want to go.”
By all accounts, Radcliffe is moving in the right direction with the upcoming Kill Your Darlings, in which he’ll play celebrated gay poet Allen Ginsberg. The film, which has been getting great reviews, is a test of Radcliffe’s range and discipline. It also features a number of explicit gay sex scenes. Radcliffe himself is unfazed, saying, “You never see a gay actor getting asked what it’s like to play straight — to my knowledge, at least, there is no difference in how heterosexual and homosexual people fall in love.”
The whole article is worth a read, and it’s likely to make you fall in love with Daniel Radcliffe all over again. It also features such tidbits as Kill Your Darlings director John Krokidas joking about Radcliffe’s penis, saying; “He’s only British from the waist up.”
If only we had a Pensieve, we could re-watch him in Equus over and over…
