Versace” marks the third installment of the critically-acclaimed American Crime Story anthology, following behind last year’s “People V. O.J. Simpson” and the forthcoming second season, which will center on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

The third season will explore the murder of iconic fashion designer Gianni Versace, who was killed on the steps of his Miami home by Andrew Cunanan in 1997. Versace will be played by Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez (Joy, The Girl on the Train) while former Glee star Darren Criss will portray Cunanan.

Though it was rumored that Lady Gaga would be stepping in to play the role of Donatella Versace, executive producer Ryan Murphy recently confirmed that this was not the case.

“When you’re going to do a show like Versace, it’s a five-month commitment, it’s a very big show, we’re shooting it all over the world,” he explained. “So I just don’t think with her schedule, I knew that it would never have worked. But I would love to work with her on something in the future.”

The script for “Versace” will be based on the book Vulgar Favors by Maureen Orth and is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2018.
