Homophobic GOP Lawmaker Calls Rep. Brian Sims A “Lying Homosexual”

The openly gay Pennsylvania representative clapped back at the bigot's "burn book."

Pennsylvania state representative Brian Sims does not suffer fools gladly.

Responding to recent complaints made against him regarding a redistricting dispute, GOP Pennsylvania Rep. Daryl Metcalfe lashed out Friday in a Facebook rant calling Democrat legislators "liberal losers," the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Metcalfe criticized some of his peers specifically, labeling Sims a "lying homosexual" and Rep. Matt Bradford "touchy-feely."

The conservative Republican has defended his comments, saying he mentioned Sims' sexual orientation because he believes it is "immoral behavior."

"My most infamously bigoted colleague, Rep. Daryl Metcalfe took to his 'burn book' to attack my colleagues of color and myself call me a 'lying homosexual,'" Sims tweeted. "I could use your help as I go up against this type of blatant homophobia and bigotry in the Capital."

"In his defense, I’m sure he meant 'laying homosexual' because I was still laying in bed with my Disney-prince boyfriend when he typed it," Sims continued. "You know how much his type thinks about what my type does in our own homes."

“For the record, he’s a racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, bigot. All of those words have definitions. His behavior, his public statements, and his legislation over the years all clearly rise to the level of those definitions.”

Referring to Metcalfe as "Rep. Snowflake McRacist," Sims also responded directly to his rival's comments, writing, "You’re a gaslighter who threatens people and then backs down and claims victimhood when you’re called out. It’s the ultimate sign of intellectual dishonesty. Grow up and at least have the courage of your broken convictions."

Democratic leaders are now calling for Metcalfe to be removed from his position as chairman of the House State Government Committee.

“Metcalfe’s racist and homophobic outbursts and blatant admission that he blocks legislation from advancing for the sole reason that it is sponsored by Democrats is why Pennsylvanians distrust Harrisburg," said Pennsylvania Democratic Party executive director Sinceré Harris in a statement.

Sims, a staunch advocate for Philadelphia’s LGBT community, publicly criticized Metcalfe in December for his homophobic reaction to Bradford touching his arm during a committee meeting. “I’m a heterosexual," Metcalfe told Bradford. "I have a wife. I love my wife. I don’t like men, as you might."

“I’m up against this type of blatant homophobia and bigotry almost every day in the Capitol," Sims wrote Friday in an email to supporters, "but it’s never stopped me before and it sure won’t now.”
