Dave Holmes Says Gay Media Ignores “Non-Traditional Gay Male Body Shapes”

The former MTV VJ explains why no one cared he was out in the '90s.

We see you, Dave Holmes.

The 47-year-old writer and comedian had some choice words for superficial gay journalists this week when he appeared as a guest on Guy Branum’s Talk Show the Game Show on truTV.

Branum mentions during their interview that Holmes publicly came out of the closet after the former MTV VJ left the network in 2001.

“Well, I was out of the closet the whole time," Holmes clarifies. "But when you have what I will call ‘non-traditional gay male body shapes,’ then you might notice the gay media will just ignore you entirely."

“I know nothing of that topic, Dave Holmes,” Branum deadpans.

“So I would bring male dates to things, but, like, if you’re heavy, it doesn’t matter,” the Reno 911! actor continues.

“Anybody who’s having issues about, like, ‘Oh, I don’t want people to find out I’m gay,’ gain 15 pounds, no one will care.”
