Today, April 15, is the 20th annual Day of Silence, an international event sponsored by GLSEN that brings awareness to the bullying and harassment experienced by LGBT youth.
Those partaking are asked not to speak for the entire day, representing how homophobic language and bullying silence their victims. This year’s theme is “Silence is Ours,” encouraging participants to reclaim their silence, “shifting it from something forced upon LGBT students to a strategic tool they use to advocate for safe and affirming schools.”
