The nominees for the 43rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards have been announced, and the Logo documentary Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine has been nominated in the "Outstanding Special Class Special" category.

Directed by Michele Josue, a friend of Matthew's, the documentary aired on Logo in July and recounted the life and death of the 21-year-old college student, who was brutally murdered in 1995.

Shepard's death sparked a national conversation and raised awareness about anti-gay hate crimes around the world. The tireless advocacy of his parents, Dennis and Judy Shepard, led to the passage of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act in 2009.

It added gender identity, sexual orientation and disability to the list of criteria for federal hate-crime statutes.

Another LGBT-focused work, EastSiders, was nominated for "Outstanding Digital Daytime Drama Series" and "Outstanding Actor in a Digital Daytime Drama Series," for lead actor Van Hansis.

The show, which follows two LGBT couples living in Los Angeles, stars Mad Men's Kit Williamson and former As the World Turns actor Van Hansis. (EastSiders' first season also debuted on Logo.)

The Cooking Channel's My Grandmother's Ravioli, starring out humorist Mo Rocca, received a nomination for Outstanding Culinary Program.

And while Ellen DeGeneres took herself out of the running for Outstanding Talk Show Host some years back, the Ellen DeGeneres Show scored ten more nominations this year.

In all, DeGeneres and the show have nabbed 38 Emmys since its debut in 2003.
