Daytime TV's First Transgender Bride Gets Hitched On "The Bold and the Beautiful"

And she reads her father for filth at the altar!

The Bold and the Beautiful actress Karla Mosley made history as the first transgender bride to be married on daytime TV yesterday when her character, Maya Avant, was married to the sexy young entrepreneur Rick Forrester (played by Jacob Young).

Avant has been a series regular since 2013, but she first came out as transgender in an episode in March. She was hailed as the first transgender character to regularly appear on a daytime soap, and CBS was quick to add a supporting role for her in Nick, a trans man played by actor Scott Turner Schofield.

Avant was forced to come out to her fiancé later in the season, when a tabloid writer threatened to publicly out her.

In true soap fashion, her nuptials were incredibly dramatic. In the clip below, Avant stands at the altar and has a tense argument with her father, who's having trouble accepting her.

As we reported in March, Mosely was on board to play a trans character from the moment she learned her character's identity. "It's a real opportunity to educate our viewers here and all over the world," she said at the time.

"It’s been an honor to tell this positive story of love and acceptance and now we will see the drama peak as we reach Rick and Maya’s wedding day, which will not be an easy walk down the aisle," said executive producer and head writer Bradley Bell. "I’m told we’re the first show in television history to include a story with a transgender character getting married and my hope is that in the future there will be many more."
