“Death Becomes Her” Musical Starring Kristin Chenoweth Is In The Works

NOW a warning?

Madeline Ashton might finally return to Broadway.

Universal Theatrical Group has announced a stage adaptation of the 1992 cult favorite, Death Becomes Her, originally starring Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn and Bruce Willis. Not only that, but Emmy and Tony Award-winning actress Kristin Chenoweth is attached to star as Madeline, the role Streep brought to life.

According to Variety no creative team has been announced and a production timeline is still being worked out, so take a sip of of that eternal youth potion because it could be a couple of years before the musical hits the Great White Way.

Chenoweth has been a Broadway star for years, and eventually made the jump to movies and TV, winning an Emmy for Pushing Daisies. Earlier this year she played the role of Easter on Starz’s American Gods, but with showrunner Bryan Fuller not set to return to the series, Chenoweth said it was unclear whether she would be back.

Anyone who has seen Death Becomes Her knew a musical version would have to happen at some point. We are dying to see the movie’s opening number “(I See) Me” brought to life onstage, and all of those dance numbers in that giant mansion? Consider our tickets already bought.
