Deborah Cox To Belt Out Whitney Houston's Hits In Lifetime Biopic

While Yaya DaCosta certainly looks the part, many have been wondering who could do justice to "The Voice" in Lifetime's upcoming Whitney Houston biopic, I Will Always Love You: The Whitney Houston Story. Well, dance and R&B diva Deborah Cox is ready to get on a ladder and start climbing those octaves.

I assume Jennifer Hudson was too busy polishing her Oscar to notice or care that this was happening, so how did Debs get here? -- I vageuly remember nobody was supposed to be here.

Known by gays the world over for her anthemic tracks, Cox performed a duet with the late legend, "Same Script, Different Cast" from Whitney's 2000 greatest hits compilation. According to a source at Lifetime, "music rights and clearances are still being worked out," but Cox will be provide the "vocal tracks." That sounds like Deborah Cox will be doing karaoke to "How Will I Know," which isn't the worst possible thing that could happen.

Directed by Houston's Waiting to Exhale co-star Angela Bassett, the biopic will focus on Houston's relationship with ex-husband/enabler Bobby Brown, played in the film by Belize-born hottie Arlen Escarpeta. But while Bassett will address Houston's drug use, she doesn't want to "drag her through the muck."

"I really just want to tell a story about a boy and a girl who fell in love," the first-time director recently said. "And these are the words and this is the place, and these are are the people on the outside, you know? And I want to be as honest as I can about about doing that."

For a taste of what you may expect from I Will Always Love You: The Whitney Houston Story, here are Debs and Whits gunning for each other on "Same Script, Different Cast":
