Flight will be released tomorrow, the first live action film director Robert Zemeckis has directed since Castaway, and all anyone can talk about is the amazing performance from Denzel Washington. Forget Daniel Day-Lewis and Joaquin Phoenix, it looks like Denzel may be going home with his third Oscar come February.

Just look at the raves below.

"Played by Denzel Washington in one of the great performances of his commanding career, Whip is used to coasting on his tremendous talent and considerable charm, proud of his ability to "manage" his drinking and drugging. But during the investigation that follows the event, he engages in some desperate steering to postpone his own crash landing. How the man veers and buzzes, his cocky pride scrambling more and more wearily to outrun the truth, makes for a powerful and layered action thriller." - EW

"No actor is as brilliant, or as cunning, as Denzel Washington at portraying superhuman coolness and the scary prospect of its loss. Watch him in Flight as airline captain “Whip” Whitaker (excellent name!) as he Hoovers a line of cocaine to counteract a blood-alcohol level that would topple a lesser man and jauntily heads for a plane carrying “102 souls” with the Stones blasting. His responses, in spite of everything, are acute—Whip is whip-smart. Even when out of control, even after he stumbles on the first step to the plane, he flirts tantalizingly, seductively with self-mastery. Despite everything, you think he just might be able to fly as well or better than anyone else. Because it’s all about control. And because he’s Denzel." - NY Mag

"After opening with one of the most terrifying flying scenes I've witnessed, in which an airplane is saved by being flown upside down, Robert Zemeckis' Flight segues into a brave and tortured performance by Denzel Washington — one of his very best. Not often does a movie character make such a harrowing personal journey that keeps us in deep sympathy all of the way." - Chicago Sun-Times

"Denzel Washington is aces as a commercial airline pilot who pulls off a miraculous mid-air stunt while flying with a 0.24 blood alcohol concentration, only to face his demons on the ground. Pic should soar on all platforms -- except in-flight, of course." - Variety

"A gritty, full-bodied character study about a man whose most exceptional deed may, ironically, have resulted from his most flagrant flaw, this absorbing drama provides Denzel Washington with one of his meatiest, most complex roles, and he flies with it." - THR
